Valtocado: rural Mijas at the foot of the mountains
Country houses, crops and hillsides: Valtocado is the quieter side of Mijas and a good starting point for exploring the mountains.

Valtocado is a small inland hamlet in Mijas, west of the village, between the mountains and farmland. Far from the bustle of the coast, it retains its traditional rural character: country houses, crops and hillsides.
The mountains on your doorstep
Valtocado is a good starting point for exploring the Sierra de Mijas, the municipality’s main natural area:

Paths in the area lead to viewpoints such as the Mirador de Cañada Morena and, for more experienced hikers, summits such as Pico Mendoza, at 1,045 metres.
Tips
In summer, walk early in the morning or at sunset, and always take water. Follow fire prevention rules: these mountains are a treasure worth protecting.
